Who Are the Perennial Travelers?

Several years ago I offered a bus trip to tour two gardens in New England: Fred McGourty’s Hillside Gardens and The Berkshire Botanical Gardens. The idea was very well received. I realized that gardeners are always ready to go on a trip to visit and tour beautiful gardens, yet other family members may not be as eager to spend hours viewing vistas of iris, hosta or daylilies.  So, let’s fill a bus with garden lovers and go together.

The following year I sent out a letter announcing an overnight trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show. The sign-up list was full in two weeks time. Our group needed a name and since we frequently visited perennial gardens and we went every year we became The Perennial Travelers.

Not everyone goes on every garden trip; as a matter of fact there is no one (other than me) who has gone on all the Perennial Travelers garden trips. We are based in Syracuse, NY so within a 4-5 hour drive are many fabulous botanical gardens, nurseries, private and public gardens. The garden trips are just one over-night, and we usually do more than just tour beautiful gardens. We also  see a mix of  mansions, museums or other local attractions. See a list of our past Perennial Travelers Garden Trips.

Information about this year’s trips is coming soon.
